Now I will admit I am shocked that I am one of the finalist for Anime Expo’s 2007 AMV Contest.
I didn’t just get one video in the finals, but BOTH of my submissions made it. Very strange.
James posted the list Sunday evening, but being a manager for SPJA/Anime Expo I had the pleasure of viewing the finalist list at the staff showing/judging on Saturday.
My AMVs are already in a previous post, stating that I won Judges Best in Show at FanimeCon for my Code Geass video and Judges 1st in Experimental for my Lain video.
Anyways, I guess I am happy to have made it to the big screen, but I really doubt I am going to win anything. Too many other better drama videos.
I guess with that I’ll spill the beans. From start to finish, ripping to exporting, my Code Geass video took 3 days. No prior conceptualizing or pre-thought was given. I was told by Katy, 5 days before the submission deadline, that as a manager I was allowed to submit AMVs. Excited that I was allowed to submit, I slapped 2 videos together (with the help of my brother) and sent it away.
If the contest finalists were decided on hard work and time spent, I am damn sure I’d be out. Lucky for me thats not the case.
Anyways enough of my rant, I spent the better part of my evening watching other winners and I came across the Winner for Best in Show at AnimeBoston’s AMV Contest. This is a very good video. No crazy effects, just clean editing with a song that perfectly matches each scene of the AMV. This video is a prime example of how AMVs ’should’ be made these days.
Enjoy!
